Clown Intensive with Adam Zimmerman

Clowning is not so much a particular style of acting as a personal experience of play-based communications experienced in the now. This means unstructured play in action, while framing our characters.

Life as an adult, social conventions, and the global news cycle drives down and away the innocence of childhood whether we like it or not.

This workshop is a chance for you to relinquish the sensor of every day living, and within reason, break free of conventions and expectations. To let go of any preconceived ideas of clown and discover the clown within.

Participants will spend three sessions with Adam explore the various fields of play, share in mindful, guided meditation, and develop and express characters by way of play-based theatrical and group exercises.

The goal for Adam is to help you express yourself through your clown, and to open up more personal connections. Be those professional stage partners, audiences, our friends, families and ultimately ourselves.

Students will do this through clowning. Go beyond the definition of the word. Discuss the meaning of clown, a clown's implication and help each other discover who our clowns actually are.

Clowning is a personal journey, to be lived in the moment. As challenging and scary as this may seem, the door is open and it is up to you to step through it.

All experience levels welcome.

For those who need financial assistance, two scholarship spots are available. Discounts are also available for repeat students and current University of Ottawa Theatre students. Contact us at info@improvembassy.com for details.
